Realtor’s guide to buying a family house in Crofton, MD

Posted on December 30, 2022December 30, 2022 By Lisa Roberts

Buying a family house in Crofton won’t be very hard. There is plenty to choose from. Before we tell you everything a realtor told us about buying a home in this area, we have to talk a bit about this place. First of all, we wanted to tell you that you chose well. Crofton is located in Anne Arundel County. For quite some time this census-designated place is known to be one of the best places to live in Maryland. If you buy a home in this area most of your neighbors will be homeowners. That means you won’t have to change neighbors often and you will have the luxury of getting to know them well and getting attached. This place is perfect for active people. You will often see joggers and cyclists in Crofton.

Before you hire a realtor

You can start on your own. Check out some of the biggest real estate websites like Zillow.com or ryanhomes.com. This is not something that can replace a realtor but a tool that will give you a good insight. You will see what’s available and the prices. Traditional row houses from the 1960s and 1970s coexist with more modern single-family residences in Crofton. Crofton has a typical home value of $417,740, which is much more than the state average of $312,000. Nearly eighty percent of the locals are also homeowners. The average rental fee is $1,864. While condos and apartment buildings do exist, the majority of dwellings in the area are large, single-family houses.

Then you should focus on your research. Check out the neighborhoods, and see what you prefer. Your realtor needs to know this in order to help you. Buying a family house in Crofton will be much easier if you know exactly what you what before you even start interviewing realtors. Yes, you should interview a couple of them before you decide on one.

You can find a lot of useful information online but beware of scammers at the same time.

Things your realtor needs to know about your family house in Crofton

  • preferred neighborhood
  • the price range that you can work with
  • size of the house that you would like
  • style (or styles) of the house that you would like
  • how many rooms (bedroom, bathroom, guest room, etc)
  • how do you feel about renovating the place before moving in

Those are just some of the things you need to know before you start house hunting so make sure to think about it before you even call a realtor. When it comes to money, this is a topic we will avoid. You can see the prices online and you alone will know best the way you want to finance your new house so why waste more time on this? You can find budget planning tips online. If you have any difficulties, go to your bank and talk to professionals. That is the best way to approach this.

Chose your neighborhood wisely

Crofton consists of several different communities, the largest of which is Crofton Town Center, followed by Crofton Meadows, Nantucket Mews, and Conaway. Even though most New Carrolton residents have their own vehicles, the city also provides a bus service for those who need to get to the subway. New Carrolton is home to several different rail lines, including Amtrak, Greyhound, and a commuter line that travels to both Penn Station the one in Baltimore, and Union Station (Washington, DC.). All of these neighborhoods are great places for investors.

A family house.
Now you can start searching for your family house.

Who do you need besides a realtor in order to buy a home in Crofton?

We always say that buying a home is not a small endeavor and it doesn’t end with you getting the keys to your new home. There is so much that needs to be done. House hunting is not the only task you have. It’s almost impossible to do everything by yourself. Luckily there are people who can help you. A realtor will be your house-hunting (and negotiating) partner. Chances are you will be needing more help. Once you and your realtor locate a house that looks like it could be a perfect place for your family you should ask for a professional opinion. We are talking about hiring a home inspector. Chances are your realtor already knows a few goods (and local if possible) home inspectors. They can spot any potential red flags that the house you like might have. They can be such a great investment especially if you encounter not-so-honest sellers. That happens. They mask the problems and then you get stuck with a problematic house.

Hiring professionals will change the whole experience and it can even save you some money. Once you buy the house you will need to move there obviously but do you have to do that on your own? Of course not. There are people who can help you with that as well. Professional movers can move you and all your household belongings. When it comes to unpacking and settling in, local specialists can jump in. There is always a way to make your life easier.

A handshake.
You can rely on professionals.

Before we go here is something more about this amazing suburb

Crofton dates back to 1964 and it is a master-planned neighborhood. Historically, this area was a private gated enclave inside the Crofton Parkway ring. Crofton is currently a welcoming community, represented by the open gates. Crofton Parkway, which still surrounds the hub, is now the site of numerous yearly events and parades. The 3.5-mile path is frequented by those looking to get some exercise on foot, two wheels, or four. This suburb has a population of just more than 27,000 and an area of 6.6 square miles, thus it is still a rather tiny town. We are sure that this can be a perfect place for you and your family and that’s why we had to talk today about buying a family house in Crofton. Good luck!
